Many people are curious about Rex Heuermann after hearing that he was reportedly arrested in connection with the Gilgo Beach killings. He is a 59-year-old resident of Massapequa Park.
According to an interview that Bonjour Realty had with Heuermann last year, he is an architect and the proprietor of the Manhattan-based RH Consulting. Heuermann works for the city’s Department of Building as a building facilitator, guiding customers through the challenging construction process.
Since 2011, at least 11 sets of remains have been discovered along Ocean Parkway. This has sparked a major, multi-agency investigation with numerous suspects over the years, but Heuermann Friday was ultimately proven to be the perpetrator. At 4 o’clock in Yaphank, Suffolk law enforcement officials were scheduled to discuss his arrest.
He lives in a peaceful Massapequa Park neighborhood, but on Friday morning the police, the media, and curious onlookers descended upon his modest red house.
Heuermann revealed to his presenter during the interview with Bonjour Realty that he started working in Manhattan in 1987. He responded to the interviewer’s question on what sort of tool he would be by describing his father as an aeronautical engineer who worked on satellite construction while also dabbling in furniture making, which he currently does in the same workshop as his father.
Heuermann claimed that he would serve as a carpenter’s hammer. “It is persuasive enough,” he said, raising his eyebrows and tilting his head. “When I need to persuade something, not someone, something, and it always yields excellent results. And at the end of the project, whatever piece of furniture or what I’m working on, it always helps it come out beautifully.”
The interviewer questioned if he would be that kind of hammer for his work.
“Sometimes I have to be the heavy framing hammer, other times I am the lightweight hammer just to nudge things along,” Heuermann said.
